#FlattenTheCurve

London based award-winning animators Kathrin Steinbacher and Emily Downe sent out a call to fellow animators to submit short clips of day-to-day tasks which were keeping them positive during the lockdown. Over 90 clips later, the pair set about compiling a series of films to document animators' response to the crisis. The result is a series of animations under the name #FlattenTheCurve: celebrating the mundane aspects of lockdown portrayed with new vibrancy and dynamism. There’s even a short cameo from Joe Exotic as well as jumping dolphins in the canals of Venice!

Historic England Photography Project

It is impossible to deny that we are currently living through a significant moment in history. Lockdown will be discussed, explored and studied by future generations, and the creative works made during this time will serve as keys to understanding what it was really like. No one understands this better than Historic England, who are inviting the British public to contribute to a national collection of photographs that document the impact of COVID-19 on everyday people. Serving as a “unique time capsule for the future”, the campaign encourages anyone and everyone to share images that reveal their experiences of lockdown, self-isolation and social distancing.

Virtual poster campaign from Layers

Layers’ NHS poster campaign

Design studio Layers have brought messages of support for the NHS to the streets of London thanks to their newly launched virtual poster campaign. The studio has released ten mock-ups ranging from bus tops to billboards around London calling on designers to purchase and customise with their own designs. Each costs £10, and all proceeds go to the NHS Charities Together’s COVID-19 appeal. So far Layers have pulled in talent from the likes of Pentagram, offering a slick purple and green typography focused design, and Post who have created an animated rainbow effect inspired by the popular symbol that can be seen in thousands of windows around the country.

Damien Hirst x Snapchat, 2020

Damien Hirst's spin in the Snapchat filter

Young British Artists and Snapchat is something that you may not expect to find in the same sentence but this week Damien Hist took the unprecedented move of teaming up with the tech giant to devise an interactive, augmented reality experience. The collaboration sees the launch of a new snapchat filter based on Hirst’s renowned ‘Spin Paintings’ which allows users to splat, squirt and splash (virtual) paints over a spinning white canvas. Not only is this all great fun for those stuck indoors but the experience is also in support of Partners in Health, a non-profit social justice organisation bringing quality health care to vulnerable communities across the world. Check it out now while you wait for the augmented reality version of ‘Unmade Bed’...
